Nelson Provincial Museum

Nelson Provincial Museum Pupuri Taonga O Te Tai Ao occupies a prominent central city corner location. Totally transforming an existing commercial building, this project installs an exhibition and education centre on a highly visible central city corner. A bold double height entry and transparent approach to public spaces, focused on the pedestrian precinct of Trafalgar Street, highlights the significance of the museum’s collection to the region and contrasts with the introspective exhibition spaces behind. Exhibition spaces provide international standards in environmental conditions, security, fire protection, exhibition lighting and technology. This rigorous approach to environmental standards enables the museum to attract and successfully display objects from any international collection.
